Appointments

calendarAll our surgeries operate on a managed appointment system.  This means that we aim to provide you with an appointment with a health professional (doctor or nurse) on the day you contact the surgery.

Should you request an appointment with a specific health professional there may be a delay depending upon the availability of the health professional you have specifically asked to see.

Urgent Problems

The practice operates a telephone triage service for patients who consider their problem to be clinically urgent.  If you feel you have a clinically urgent problem during surgery hours ring the Stamfordham Road surgery on 0191 2437000 before 11:00.  The receptionist will ask for some basic information about the problem and a contact telephone number.  A doctor or nurse will then ring you back to discuss your problem. You may then be given advice, issued with a prescription or given an appointment or home visit.

Practice Nurses

In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many conditions and you may be seen more quickly.

Cancellations

It is important that should you make an appointment you make every effort to attend. We have on average 330 appointments wasted every month due to patients booking an appointment then failing to attend. Repeated instances of missing appointments may result in you being asked to leave the practice list.
